US imposes new sanctions on Iran amid stalled nuclear negotiations

The US has imposed new sanctions on Iran, targeting individuals and entities linked to its tanker company. Negotiations between Washington and Tehran remain stalled over uranium enrichment demands. The sanctions follow Trump’s announcement of a travel ban affecting Iranian nationals.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The United States has imposed new sanctions on Iran, despite ongoing indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.

The latest round of sanctions, announced on Friday, targets 10 individuals and 27 entities, including companies based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Hong Kong.

The US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has added Ace Petrochem FZE and Moderate General Trading LLC, both registered in the UAE, to its Specially Designated Nationals List, effectively freezing any US-based assets they hold.

OFAC alleges that these companies are linked to the state-owned National Iranian Tanker Company, which is already under US sanctions.

Iran and the US have conducted five rounds of indirect negotiations aimed at replacing the 2015 nuclear deal, which was disrupted following Washington’s withdrawal in 2018.

However, the talks have stalled due to US demands that Iran cease uranium enrichment under any new agreement.

Iran maintains that it will not relinquish its right to uranium enrichment, which is protected under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

The sanctions were imposed just a day after US President Donald Trump announced a complete travel ban for nationals from 12 countries, including Iran.
